What is the User State Migration Tool (USMT)?

Rating:

The User State Migration Tool (USMT), which is included with the Windows XP operating system, allows administrators to transfer user configuration settings and files from computers running Windows 95 or later to a clean Windows XP installation. This tool can be configured for different environments by using the .INF files to control the items that are transferred. Since the User State Migration Tool (USMT) depends on two command-line tools (i.e., SCANSTATE.EXE for copying files and LOADSTATE.EXE for importing files), administrators can incorporate it into scripts.
