What is the DG_BROKER_START parameter?

The DG_BROKER_START is an initialization parameter that must be set to true to automatically start the DMON process, whenever a database instance is started. Some of the properties of the parameter are as follows:

  • Parameter Type: Boolean
  • Default value: False
  • Parameter Class: ALTER SYSTEM (dynamic)
  • Range of values:
  • True to False
The value of the parameter can be set as follows:
  • If Oracle Enterprise Manager is in use then the parameter is automatically set to TRUE for new standby databases that it creates.
  • If the command-line interface is in use then the parameter must explicitly be set by using the SQL statement. However, if not set then the DMON process will not start. The SQL statement that is used to set the parameter is given below:

    ALTER SYSTEM SET DG_BROKER_START = TRUE;
