What is the DB_CACHE_SIZE parameter?

Rating:

DB_CACHE_SIZE, formerly known as DB_BLOCK_BUFFERS, is an ASM initialization parameter that specifies the size of the SGA. The parameter is also responsible for setting the size of the default buffer pool. The value of the parameter is calculated as follows:

4M * number of CPUs * granule size

If a user has specified a value larger than the value obtained by the above formula, the value rounds up to the nearest granule size.

Some of the properties of the parameter are given below:

  • Parameter type: Big Integer
  • Syntax: DB_CACHE_SIZE = integer [K | M | G]
  • Modifiable: ALTER SYSTEM
