What is the Active Directory Migration Tool?

Rating:

The Active Directory Migration Tool is used to migrate objects from one domain to another, or from one server to another, regardless of whether they belong to a single forest or different forests. Therefore, it allows administrators to perform both intraforest and interforest migration. In this way, it overcomes the limitations of the Exchange Migration Wizard, which supports only interforest migration. The most significant advantage of using the Active Directory Migration Tool is that it migrates the SID history of user accounts. As a result, accounts retain the original permissions even after they have been migrated to a new server. In addition to this, version 2 of the Active Directory Migration Tool also allows migration of user account passwords, which is not possible with version 1. However, with version 2, the installation of an additional DLL file is required.
