What is security identifier (SID)?
Rating:
Security identifier (SID) is a unique number that identifies a user, group, and computer account. When a user, group, or computer account is created, a unique SID is issued. Windows internal process refers to an account's SID rather than the account's user or group name. When an existing account is deleted and a new user account is created with the same name, it has a different SID number than the previous account. Therefore, the new account does not have the rights or permissions that were previously granted to the old account.
