Password file authentication is an authentication method that is used to authenticate users who connect to a database as administrative users. To connect to a database by using the password file authentication method, a user must be added to a password file, and the REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE parameter in the initialization parameter file must be set to EXCLUSIVE or SHARED. Using this authentication method, a user can connect to a database by executing any of the following commands:

  • CONNECT username/password AS SYSDBA

  • CONNECT username/password AS SYSOPER


where,
  • username specifies the name of a user account.

  • password specifies the password of the user account.
