What is normalization?

Rating:

Normalization is the process of reducing data redundancy and eliminating database anomalies such as insertion, deletion, and update. There are mainly three normal forms as follows:

  • 1NF: To make a database in 1NF, repeating groups should be eliminated. A separate table for each related attribute should be made with one primary key attribute.
  • 2NF: To make a database in 2NF, redundant data should be eliminated. The attribute that depends on only a part of a multi-valued key should be removed and placed in a separate table.
  • 3NF: To make a database in 3NF, the columns that are not dependent on the primary key should be eliminated from the table.
