What is linking?

Rating:

Linking is a method of inserting objects from one location to another within a document or between documents. When a user links an object, the information in the destination file (the location where the object is linked) is changed whenever the source file (the location of the linked object) is updated. Unlike embedding, linking does not make a copy of the source object. Instead, it merely stores the references of the source file. With linked files, a user can maintain data in a separate program. Whenever he opens the destination file, MS Word automatically accesses the most updated information.
