In a Relational Database Management System, an entity is defined as a living or non-living object that has some characteristics. For example, Student is an entity, and name, age, address, etc. define his characteristics. Car is also an entity, and engine, color, year of manufacturing, etc. define its characteristics. The characteristics of an entity are known as its attributes.
