A password file is a text file that is used to authenticate users who connect to a database as administrative users by using the password file authentication method. A user must be added to a password file before he can connect to a database by using the password file authentication method. Granting the SYSDBA or SYSOPER privilege to a user automatically adds him to a password file. A password file is created using the ORAPWD (password file creation utility).
