A loopback address is a reserved TCP/IP address that is used for testing internal TCP/IP configurations on any computer. It is used with the PING command to verify whether TCP/IP is correctly installed on the computer or not. The loopback address is any address in the range 127.x.y.z, and a successful PING to a computer's loopback address verifies that TCP/IP is correctly installed on the computer.
