A cryptanalyst is a person who performs cryptanalysis. A cryptanalyst performs the following tasks:
- Analyzes secret coding and decodes messages for military, law enforcement agencies, or organizations.
- Examines secret messages for characteristics that reveal coding system employed in messages.
- Analyzes messages by using formulas, codebooks, mechanical devices, computers, and knowledge of commonly used coding keys.
- Decodes entire messages and consults books, magazines, government publications, and police files to obtain corroborative evidence.
