Computers on a network that are equipped with a Preboot Execution Environment (PXE)-compliant network adapter can be started from a server on the network without using a floppy disk, CD, or a hard disk. A computer with a PXE-compliant network adapter broadcasts its presence on the network and then a server provides the computer with information to access the RIS server.
