What is Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption?

Rating:

Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption is a security feature that Windows Vista provides to protect a computer by encrypting the entire hard disk drive on which the Windows Vista operating system is installed. BitLocker dynamically encrypts the files that are moved to or saved on the system drive. Because of this special feature, which was not a part of earlier operating systems, data stored on a computer running Windows Vista remains encrypted even if the hard disk drive is removed or when the Windows Vista operating system is not running, i.e., the computer has been shut down or another operating system is running. This helps protect vital data of the computer against unauthorized intrusion or in case an attack is attempted by disabling the installed operating system. Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption uses a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and provides protection at startup.
