WIPO stands for World Intellectual Property Organization. It enforces copyright laws and promotes the cause of intellectual rights. It is responsible for the protection of intellectual properties. It encourages co-operation among members, presently more than 170 countries, in enforcing copyright laws. An accused of copyright infringement can be prosecuted in any member country, irrespective of where the owner filed the copyright.
It also works in association with the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights. This committee is presently planning to update the international protection of broadcasting organizations.
