What is USMT 3.0?
Rating:
Microsoft Windows User State Migration Tool (USMT) 3.0 is used to migrate user files and settings during large deployments of Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Vista operating systems.
USMT captures desktop and application settings, user accounts, and users' files. The captured files and settings are then migrated to the new installation. Some of the important components included in USMT are as follows:
| SCANSTAT.EXE | SCANSTATE scans the source computer, collects the files and settings, and compresses them as an image file in a store. It does not modify the source computer. |
| LOADSTAT.EXE | LOADSTATE migrates the files and settings from the store to the destination computer. |
| Migration .xml files | These are the MIGSYS.XML, MIGAPP.XML, MIGUSER.XML, and any Custom .xml files that an administrator creates for migration. |
| CONFIG.XML | This file is used to exclude components from the migration. |
