The IEEE 802.11 standards define wireless local area network (WLAN) computer communication in the 5GHz and 2.4GHz public spectrum bands. These specifications define an over-the-air interface between a wireless client and a base station or access point. The 802.11 specifications also define standards among wireless clients.
