What are the modes of VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP)?
Rating:
VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP) has three modes: server, client, and transparent. Each switch must use one of the three modes. Administrators set some of the switches on the server mode and rest of the switches on the other modes. After setting the server mode on the switches, administrators can add configuration on the switches. The switches in the server mode advertise their VLAN configuration to other switches. Switches set with the client mode cannot be used to create, change, or delete VLANs. A switch configured with the transparent mode does not advertise its VLAN configuration and does not synchronize its VLAN configuration based on received advertisements. The switches with the transparent mode forward VTP messages they receive so that other clients and servers can receive a copy of the messages.
