What are public IP addresses?
Rating:
When an intranet is not connected to the Internet, any IP addressing scheme can be deployed, but if the intranet is connected to the Internet, two types of addressing are used, namely private and public. Public addresses are globally unique and based on class-based network IDs. When the public addresses are assigned, routes are programmed into the routers of the Internet so that traffic to the assigned public addresses can reach their locations. Any traffic to the destination public addresses is reachable on the Internet. When an intranet uses a direct (routed) Internet connection, the public IP address should be assigned to the external interface (the router).
