What are group functions?

Rating:

Group functions, also known as aggregate functions, operate on one or more groups of rows and give one result per group. They are commonly used with the GROUP BY clause in a SELECT statement, where Oracle divides the rows of a queried table or view into groups. Group functions can also appear in the SELECT, ORDER BY, and HAVING clauses. All group functions except COUNT (*) and GROUPING ignore NULL values.
