The Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) on Windows Server 2003 upgrade exam (70-296) is available for those candidates only who are currently certified as MCSEs on Windows 2000. The MCSE on Windows Server 2003 credential is meant for IT professionals who work in the complex computing environment of medium to large companies. Before taking the 70-296 exam, you should practice the following:

1. Install Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition on two networked computers. During installation, through Setup, create a partition on the hard disks, on which you should install Windows Server 2003 as a stand-alone server in a workgroup.


2. Install a network interface card and configure protocols.


3. Make a Windows 2003 domain-based network of two computers. Install Windows Server 2003 with Active Directory on one computer and Windows 2000/XP Professional on the other computer, and join them to the existing domain.


4. Install and configure DNS.


5. Configure driver signing options and update device drivers.


6. Implement EFS and experiment on its usage.


7. Install, configure, and troubleshoot a virtual private network (VPN), network protocols, network services, and shared access.

9. Implement, configure, and troubleshoot auditing.


10. Implement and configure account policy and security.


11. Create sites.


12. Create organizational units (OUs).


13. Create users and computer accounts.


14. Create different groups such as local, domain etc.


15. Create group policy objects (GPOs).


16. Take backup of Active Directory and restore it.
