Painting Tools

Rating:

Painting tools are used to apply color to pixels of an image. They enable you to draw a freehand sketch and create images and graphics. The painting tools include the Pencil, the Brush, the Color Replacement, the History Brush, the Art History Brush, the Paint Bucket, the Gradient, and the Eraser tools.

  1. The Brush Tool: The Brush tool is used to apply the foreground color to an image within the area defined by dragging the tool on the image. It paints the image according to the size of the brush defined and the opacity and blending mode specified in the Options bar.

  2. The Pencil Tool: The Pencil tool is similar to the Brush tool. It paints the image with the foreground color according to the size of the brush defined and the opacity and blending mode specified in the Options bar. The Pencil tool can be used with any brush, but it uses hard-edged brush tips.

  3. The Color Replacement Tool: The Color Replacement tool is used to replace specific colors in an image. This tool manipulates the color of an image while the underlying texture, lighting, transparency, and shading details stay unaffected. The Color Replacement tool replaces the color defined by dragging the tool on the image with the color specified to foreground swatch.

Note: The Color Replacement tool does not work on images that have Bitmap, Indexed, or Multichannel color modes.

  4. The History Brush Tool:

  5. The Art History Brush Tool:

  6. The Paint Bucket Tool: The Paint Bucket tool is used to fill a similar colored area with foreground color. This tool applies the foreground color on all similar color pixels adjacent to the pixels you have clicked. The Paint Bucket tool also enables you to apply a pattern to an entire layer or selected area of the layer with just one click.

  7. The Gradient Tool: The Gradient tool is used to make a gradient of colors. It gradually blends foreground color to background color. This tool can also create a gradual blend between multiple colors. The Gradient tool enables you to choose a preset gradient fill, or you can create your own.

You can select any one of the following options from the Options bar for applying the gradient fill.
    • The Linear Gradient option creates shade in a straight line from the starting point to the end point.

    • The Radial Gradient option creates shade in a circular pattern from the starting point to the end point.

    • The Angle Gradient option creates shade around the starting point in a counterclockwise sweep.

    • The Reflected Gradient option creates shade on both sides of the starting point. It uses symmetric linear gradients with a mirror image gradient radiating in the opposite direction on either side.

    • The Diamond Gradient option creates shade in a diamond pattern from the starting point outward.
