How to create an HTML server control at design time?

Take the following steps to create an HTML server control at design time:

  1. Open the existing Web page named MyWebForm1.aspx in the design view, which is shown below:



  2. Click the HTML tab in the Toolbox tool. Drag the Input (Button) HTML element to the design view of the Web page. An illustrative image is shown below:



  3. Right-click the Button control and check the Run As Server Control drop-down menu option. A symbol appears on the upper-left corner of the Button control. This indicates that it is an HTML server control. An illustrative image shown below:



  4. An HTML control can also be converted into an HTML server control from the source view. In the source view of the Web page, add the runat="server" attribute inside the <input> HTML element of the control. An illustrative image is shown below:


Note: In the source view, an HTML server control i.e. the <input> HTML element for the Button control should be located inside the <form> HTML element having runat="server" attribute.
