How to create a new action?

Take the following steps to create a new action:

1. Open an image.



2. Click Window > Actions on the Menu bar to make the Actions palette visible.
   
   



3. Create a new action set by clicking the New Set button at the bottom of the Actions palette.
   
   Or, alternatively, choose New Set from the Actions palette menu.
   
   



4. Enter a name for the set in the New Set dialog box and click the OK button.
   
   
   
   Note: Actions are always saved in sets. You can create a new set to save an action, or you can also save the action in an existing set.



5. Click the New Action button at the bottom of the Actions palette.
   
   Or, alternatively, choose New Action from the Actions palette menu.
   
   



6. In the New Action dialog box, enter a name for the action and choose a set from the pop-up menu. If desired, assign a keyboard shortcut to the action and a color for display in Button Mode. Click the Record button.
   
   



7. Perform the actions and choose the commands that you want to record.



8. To stop recording, click the Stop Recording button at the bottom of the Actions palette.
   
   Or, alternatively, press the Escape key or choose Stop Recording from the Actions palette menu.
   
   



9. To restart recording in the same action, click the Record button at the bottom of the Actions palette.
   
   Or, alternatively, choose Start Recording from the Actions palette menu.
   
   



10. To save the actions for future use, select the set containing the actions and choose Save Actions from the Actions palette menu.
    
    



11. Enter a name for the set and give a location where you want to save it. By default the set will be saved in the Photoshop\Presets\ Photoshop Actions folder.
