The following are the steps to add a user control to a Web page by using Visual Studio 2005:

  1. Open the design view of the existing MyWebForm2.aspx page by clicking the Design tab of the page. Open the Solution Explorer window of the Web page, as shown below:



  2. Select the WebUserControl1.ascx user control file in Solution Explorer window. Drag the file onto the design Web page. All the Web server controls defined in the user control are copied on the page, as shown below:



  3. Open the source code of the Web page by clicking the Source tab at the bottom of the Web page. The Web Designer creates the @ Register directive. This directive adds the public properties and methods of the user control, as shown below:
