How is a listener configured?
Rating:
Oracle Universal Installer (the Oracle installation tool) launches Oracle Net Configuration Assistant during software installation. Oracle Net Configuration Assistant enables a user to configure the listening protocol addresses and service information for an Oracle database.
Oracle Net Configuration Assistant automatically configures a listener with a name of LISTENER (it has a TCP/IP listening protocol address for the Oracle database) during an Enterprise Edition or Standard Edition installation of Oracle on a database server. However, during a Custom installation, Oracle Net Configuration Assistant prompts the user to enter a listener name and a listening protocol address, thereby allowing him to manually configure a listener. Oracle Net Configuration Assistant also automatically configures service information for the Oracle database and the external procedures in the listener.ora file.
If the default or installed listener configuration is not adequate for a particular environment, Oracle Net Manager can be used to customize the listener configuration. Oracle Net Manager can be used for configuring listening protocol addresses, configuring access to Oracle JServer, configuring password authentication for the listener, and configuring static service information, i.e., configuring the listener statically.
