Guidelines for using filters
Rating:
A filter produces certain effects. It may blur or sharpen an image, or create special effects such as 3D effect or motion trails. The following points must be kept in mind while applying a filter from the Filter menu.
- Filters can be applied only on the active visible layer.
- Filters can be applied on an entire layer or a selected area of the layer.
- All filters can be applied individually. Most of them can also be applied cumulatively by using the Filter Gallery.
- Filters cannot be applied on an image having Bitmap or indexed color mode.
- Some filters can be applied only on RGB images.
- All filters can be applied to 8-bit images, but Blur, Average Blur, Blur More, Gaussian Blur, Motion Blur, Noise, Add Noise, Despeckle, Dust & Scratches, Median, Sharpen, Sharpen Edges, Sharpen More, Unsharp Mask, Stylize, Emboss, Find Edges, and Solarize are some other filters that can be applied to 16-bit images.
- Some filters are processed entirely in RAM.
